Off to Chennai for the weekend!
May 26, 2005 – 11:54 pmUpdate : Chennai was HOT n happenning. Hogged some awesome food at “Little Italy” on Nungambakkam High Road. Ordered for a Russian Salad & Mexcian Rice. The Risotto at Gallopping Gooseberry’s on Greams Road was awesome. At Pizza Hut Spencer’s Plaza, they didnt have my usual salad because they DID NOT have pineapple! Watched Vin Diesel’s ” Pacifier”. It was funny.
I finally finished “Ponniyin Selvan” in Tamil! Like ” Rusi Kanda Poonai” ( The cat which got a taste of the milku), now am ready to dig and relish the rest of the tamil treasure trove. Also finished Steven’s “Seasons”
Now i am diggin,

Hey muthu, would love to know what is next on your list to read in Tamil after Ponniyin Selvan
By Uma on May 28, 2005
Finishing off ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a wonderful experience…
I used to finish off Sandilyan’s novels like this, in one go, few years back.
By Ram.C on May 30, 2005
Ramesh, Yup, luckily it isnt that hot. Think “AgniNashatram”is almost over. Am still here. ( For summer holidays!
)
Uma, Nxt would be “Paathiban Kanavu’, what else would you recommend?
Ram, Sandilyan is next on the list
Which is your fav one?
By Muthu on May 30, 2005
Paarthiban Kanavu is good, much shorter than the other two. I like Sivagamiyin sabadham too, somehow my heart went out to Sivagami. Didn’t get the same enthusiasm reading Sandilyan and Kannadasan’s historical novels, even though some of them are really good, to me it did not compare with Parthiban kanavu or Ponniyin Selvan.

Summer holidays @ May end….
Think you have brought the monsoon with you. I think its gonna rain in June like it did 2 years back.
Sivagamiyin Sabatham is a very good one but to be frank, the love scenes of Narasimha varma n and Sivagami tested my patience a bit. This is given the fact that I usually love ‘varnanai’.
Parthiban Kanavu is a good read too but it has not made imprints in me.
Regarding Sandilyan, I believe ‘Kadal Pura’ is ultimate. In Sandilyan’s works you can find war scenes and eroticism (’ShRungaram’), which won’t be the case in kalki’s novels. The later novels of him have become more erotic.
I have not read much into Kannadasan’s works but I’ve read only one ‘Kadal Konda Thennadu’ and its the worst novel I ever read on all accounts ( historical facts, theme, narration etc.). No offence meant. I have huge regards for Kannadasan but I believe the novel did not fit his stature.
Tamil literature is an ocean and I wish you all the best pearls.

Hi Muthu,
Nice that you enjoyed reading Kalki. Please also start reading Puthumaipithan, Thi.Janakiraman, Asokamitran, Indira Parthasarathy, Aadavan. You will soon find the difference between popular writing and serious writing.
Bye.

Hey guys. Mani here. Read Yavana Rani by Sandilyan. Its the best work by him which he himself stated once and its my alltime favourite of novels I read in Tamil and English.
The novel’s second part is ultimate. Don’t miss that. I read this second part alone 3 or 4 times.
