Bangalore ACM SIGCHI meet at SAP Labs
Update : It was a nice evening. There were about 18-20 usability professionals mostly from Honeywell, Oracle, Infosys, etc., Met Subroto, Prasanna etc., and caught up with Satya.
• Dans’s cool. He co-owns a patent on “Tabs”! Claims that he neva got a dime outta it!
• His focus will also be on contextually integrating SAP modules on Microsoft Outlook, based on specific User needs.
• He is centralizing all the UI design & Usability teams in US, Germany, Israel and India. (China?)
• 1,40,000 unique screen are available in SAP compared to 40,000 screens in PeopleSoft and a lot less in Siebel. Dan’s gonna follow a Deconstructionist methodology.
• When I asked him about his take on AJAX, he said ‘smart clients’ like AJAX are in. He compares the shift to ‘smart clients’ to that of a vacillating pendulum. (Thick to Thin to Smart and back)
• When I asked him about the the kinda Metrics followed at SAP to measure User Experience, he talked about general industry standards and for certain (obvious) reasons did not talk SAP measures!
• All the Fortune 500 companies use atleast a single SAP application.
• The no. of mobile phones in India is almost equal to the total American population.
• And SAP Labs, Bangalore is hiring! Interested Usability Engineers can mail Durga Prasad with their resumes & design portfolios.
