Google Spreadsheets Review

Google Spread Sheets

Got access to review the basic version of Google Spreadsheet. Here are some initial & random observations. Dont have time for a lengthy and in-depth review. Sign-up here to try-out.

LATENCY: The system response is SLOW on my Mozilla. Doesnt respond as fast its expected to respond despite being on a 100 MBps connection. When i clicked on Sheet Name, Rename and Delete links poped-up on another layer. These “layers” kinda HANG and dont disappear as fast as they should. Navigation between sheets is also slow. AHHH- Have SERIOUS concerns over User-Productivity getting hit because of time lags.

OFFERING : Is it going to be positioned as a FREE SERVICE or as a PACKAGE which will run on the INTRANETS of enterprises? Too early to comment.

SECURITY : Where are the files saved? Oh-ok, they ares saved online and not on my desk. Great, now am really concerned about the confidentiality aspects of my files. Why would any organization TRUST its files with Google. We already know about the US govt bullying Google for access to e-mails and that e-mails are getting scanned for targetting advertising.

Auto-Save feature is available. Absence of Right-click Menus could work against contextual needs to the User. How do i key-in values into a cell?
Google’s Spread Sheets gotta LOOONG way to go…if they want to compete with Microsoft Excel. Meanwhile check out ZOHO Sheets. They rock!

  1. Just DID! Initial reaction is that ZOHO sounds promising and far more EVOLVED! Promise to review it in detail! :)
