Respiratory Rates and Life Span
July 18, 2007 – 8:09 amIts been almost 3 months since i’ve been regular(3-4 times/week) to the Power-Yoga classes conducted at Sun’s campus. We do the usual Pranayama stuff, then loosening exercises, 15-20 rounds of Surya Namaskara, Supine, Prone, Sitting, Standing asanas finally topped up with Shavasana (My favourite asana!) Somehow, i am hooked on Yoga than working-out at the VLCC gym.
We also practise other breathing techniques like the Dog breathing, Rabbit breathing and Tiger breathing asanas, occasionally. Deep breathing does gives me a highmakes me FEEL GOOD. Incidentally, here are some interesting facts about the normal respiratory rates of different species and their average life span. See any connection?
Normal Respiratory Rates and Average Life Span
Mouse : 163 breaths/minute 1.5 - 3 years
Rabbits : 36 - 60 breaths/minute 5 - 6 years
Dogs : 20 - 30 breaths/minute 10 - 14 years
Humans : 14 - 16 breaths/minute 80 - 90 years
